Horse Racing

There are eight meeting scheduled to take place on New Year's Day and with the weather improving there should be limited chances of any further abandonments.

Big crowds are expected at Cheltenham for a seven race meeting with the first off at 12.10pm.

As for our Antepost prices ahead of the Cheltenham Festival itself in March, Silviniaco Conti has shortened to 11/4 favourite for the Gold Cup after victory in the King George VI stakes at Kempston on Boxing Day.

Darts

The PDC World Championships quarter-finals begin on New Year's Day evening from Ally Pally with Michael van Gerwen (2/13) v Robert Thornton (9/2) and Peter Wright (15/8) v Gary Anderson (2/5).

On Friday Phil Taylor (1/25) plays Vincent van der Voort (10/1) then all eyes will be on whether reigning BDO champion Stephen Bunting (8/15) can keep up his impressive run with victory over Raymond van Barneveld (6/4).
