Midweek's Big Winning Bets

Euro 2022 has been thrilling fans this week and after thrashing Norway 8-0 on Monday evening, the Lionesses have the chance to make it a perfect group stage as they face Northern Ireland tonight.

The domestic season has got underway in Scotland as the League Cup group stage takes place and there was European success for Linfield, Newtown, Crusaders, Sligo Rovers, and Shamrock Rovers who all progressed in their respective European competitions.

England won by 100 runs to level up their ODI series with India on Thursday and at St Andrews, Cameron Young held a two-shot lead after day one of the Open.

There is plenty of high-class sport to look forward to this weekend and to give you some inspiration, we take a look at three markets over the past few days where there was a big spread make-up.

Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.

ENGLAND v INDIA – 1st ODI MULTI-FOURS (SETTLED AT 176)

After a sensational ‘Baz-balling’ success in the Test between these two, England lost a quickfire T20 Series 2-1 and they had a stinking start to their ODI Series on Tuesday. The teams were quite even in the betting ahead of play, but a classic English batting collapse left the hosts defending a meagre total of 110. It was England’s lowest ever score against India in this format.

Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jason Roy, and Liam Livingstone all departed without scoring in an innings which saw 16 fours scored and just four players reach a score into the double figures.

With the game sewn up after the first innings, India knew they had all the time in the world to reach their total and the opening Indian partnership of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan won the game in the 19th over scoring 11 fours and five sixes in the process.

It was a fairly miserable day for England fans (thought it was roles reversed in the second ODI on Thursday) but it was a great day for sellers on the Multi-Fours market. Our trading team fancied a flurry of fours but with just 16 from England and 11 from India, the market settled at 176.

Before play, the spread was at 780-870 and with the final make-up at 176, sellers landed a touch as they won 604x their stake.

ENGLAND v NORWAY – GOALS CUBED (SETTLED AT 512)

It seems like a long time ago now, but the Lionesses were roaring on Monday evening as they thrashed Norway at the Amex to secure safe passage through to the knockout rounds of the Euros.

England’s opener at Old Trafford had been a tense affair, but this was anything but that as Georgia Stanway converted a 12th-minute penalty to calm the nerves on the south coast. From there, England were rampant as they went into the break 6-0 up with Ellen White and Beth Mead helping themselves to first-half braces.

The Norwegians tried to shore things up in the second half and naturally, the intensity dropped from England, but they were still able to add two more in the second half, with Mead completing her hat-trick in the 81st minute.

With eight goals scored it was a great night to be buying the Goals Cubed spread at 54-63 which settled at a whopping 512. Buyers would have needed four goals for a profit, but with eight banged in, they landed a win of 449x their stake.

FK QARABAG v LECH POZNAN – SHIRTS x BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 5480)

Our last market of the week came from Baku where FK Qarabag (exiled within their home country since 1993) were looking to overturn a first-leg deficit having lost 1-0 in Poland last week.

Things didn’t start well for the hosts with the Poles taking the lead through Kristoffer Velde after just 19 seconds. This was made more impressive given that Qarabag had the kick-off. However, the Azeri champions dragged themselves back into the game and in the 41st minute Croatian-born Azerbaijan international Filip Ozobić levelled up the tie at 2-2 on aggregate.

The second half saw Qarabag impose their dominance on the match with three more goals – including another from Ozobić – as they ran out 5-1 winners. Interestingly enough, especially for those who backed Shirt markets, none of the six goals were scored by a player wearing a single-digit shirt number.

With 50 booking points dished out and the shirts total coming to 137 those who bought the Shirts x Bookings market at 2450-2700 were in clover as they landed a win of 2780x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
