BIG WEEKEND WINNERS
England and Ireland will return home victorious after securing series wins in the rugby union internationals this weekend and Ireland’s win over New Zealand sent shockwaves through the rugby union world. Wales were unable to follow up last week’s success against South Africa as they lost 30-14 and it was a similar story for Scotland as they were edged out 34-31 by Argentina.
Australia may well have lost the series with England, but there was some good news for our Antipodean friends as Cameron Smith produced a sensational final round at St Andrews to lift the Claret Jug.
There were also wins for India and Hampshire in the cricket whilst Magical Lagoon justified the 5/4 price to land the Irish Oaks for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley.
With plenty of top-quality sporting action, we find out where the best winning spread bets occurred.
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.
WIGAN WARRIORS v HULL FC – WIGAN MULTI-POINTS (SETTLED AT 896)
Hull FC headed across the Pennines with an injury-hit squad, but despite that, they wouldn’t have expected the pummelling they received off Wigan on Friday.
The Cherry and Whites were in an irrepressible mood with Bevan French the headline-maker as the mercurial winger scored seven tries, breaking the record for the most tries scored in a single Super League match. Compatriot Jai Field also crossed twice for the hosts with homegrown talents Liam Marshall and Harry Smith scoring tries as Wigan raced to victory.
Smith also added eight conversions in a match which saw Wigan score 28 first-half points and 32 in the second. A nice even distribution of points was great news for those who bought Wigan Multi-Points at 258-290 with the total make-up settling at 896.
It was a Cherry and White delight for buyers as they won 606x their stake.
SWITZERLAND v NETHERLANDS – GOALS x CORNERS x BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 0)
Defending champions the Netherlands made no mistake on Saturday as they breezed past Switzerland to qualify for the quarter-finals in second place where they will face France. Their clash with the Swiss at Bramall Lane was goalless at half-time, but a flurry of late goals from the Dutch saw them end up as 4-1 winners.
With five goals and eight corners, sellers on the Goals x Bookings x Corners market will have had a few nervy moments, but ultimately, there were no bookings dished out so the market settled at zero.
With the pre-match spread at 580-680, sellers landed a maximum win and came away with 580x their stake.
DIRK VAN DUIJVENBODE v RYAN SEARLE – HIGHEST CHECKOUT x TOTAL 180s (SETTLED AT 1932)
Darts’ annual jamboree in Blackpool is always a rowdy occasion no matter who is at the oche, but with his hard-hitting Euro dance walk-on, Dirk van Duijvenbode always brings the noise. The Aubergenius opened up the Sunday afternoon session as he faced Ryan Searle in a match that was never likely to disappoint.
It certainly lived up to its billing with both players hitting seven maximums apiece and both averaging over 100 (van Duijvenbode’s average of 103.61 is the highest of the tournament so far) in a see-sawing affair.
Ultimately though the Dutchman came out on top with a stunning 138 checkout to win the match 10-8. That final leg was a real delight for buyers on the Highest Checkout x Total 180s market which was 1313-1388 at the beginning of play.
A total of 14 180s multiplied by the 138 left the market to settle at 1932 as buyers checked out with a win equal to 544x their stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
