Weekly Sports Update
Real Madrid and La Rochelle were the big winners in European competition this weekend as we saw plenty of sporting drama. Huddersfield’s big day out in the capital ended in defeat as Giants lost in the Challenge Cup Final and Town were beaten 1-0 at Wembley by Nottingham Forest.
On Friday, Lancashire and Yorkshire came away from Old Trafford with a share of the spoils after a thrilling tie whilst Gujarat Lions won the IPL in their maiden campaign.
With action everywhere you looked, we run through the big winning spread bets from the past few days.
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, when spread betting losses can exceed deposits.
WREXHAM v GRIMSBY – GOALS x CORNERS x BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 6720)
In a weekend featuring two European heavyweights, there is only one place we can start the weekend round-up and that is the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham where the hosts welcomed Grimsby Town for a National League play-off semi-final.
Wrexham do have European pedigree of their own having reached the quarter-finals of the 1975/76 Cup Winners’ Cup, but that counted for nothing on Saturday as the invading Mariners captured Wales.
This match was 4-4 after normal time (Wrexham scoring in the 80th minute to take it to extra time) but for the second match in a row, Grimsby bagged a winner in the 119th minute to send Paul Hurst’s side to the final.
A great day for the black-and-white portion of Lincolnshire, but also a great day for those who bought Goals (8 – only normal time events count) x Corners (a whopping 21) x Bookings (40) with the market settling at 6720.
Pre-match the spread was 1000 - 1125 as buyers netted the catch of the day with a win equal to 5595x their stake.
LEINSTER v LA ROCHELLE – LEINSTER TRY MINUTES (SETTLED AT 0)
Leinster fans would have travelled to Marseille full of hope that their side could land the European Champions Cup for the sixth time, however, they were undone by the grit and determination of La Rochelle.
The Irishmen could only land blows from a distance as the lad running the kicking tee on for Leinster became increasingly busy. Seven penalties scored helped them to 21 points, but ultimately it was all in vain as La Rochelle prevailed 24-21 having been 18-10 down on the scoreboard at one point.
Sellers of Leinster Try Minutes were in the money however, as the market settled at 0 against a pre-match spread of 119-132 meaning they won 119x their stake.
LIVERPOOL v REAL MADRID – MULTI-BOOKINGS (SETTLED AT 0)
As Champions League finals go, this one won’t live long in the memory (for on-field events anyway) as Real Madrid’s European machine ground out another win in club football’s showpiece event.
They only needed one chance to do it as well Vinicius Jr ghosted past Trent Alexander Arnold at the back post to score the only goal of the game midway through the second half. Jurgen Klopp’s Mentality Monsters couldn’t outthink the Real Madrid defence, with Dani Carvajal and Thibault Courtois impressing as they repelled plenty of Liverpool attacks without giving them too many clear chances.
It was a slightly flat final altogether and that can perhaps be seen in the Multi-Bookings market settling at zero (first-half booking points multiplied by the total for the second-half). With the market set at 445-510, sellers could mark their card with a win equal to 445x their stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
