Weekly Sports Update
The last four days have seen a feast of sporting entertainment over the extended weekend as THE League One season concluded, women’s boxing headlined the Madison Square Garden for the first time and Celtic all but wrapped up the Scottish Premiership.
There was also plenty of drama in the Gallagher Premiership with London Irish and Wasps slugging out to a 42-42 record draw and there was another thrilling draw between Glamorgan and Derbyshire in the County Championship.
With so much action taking place, we slice through the noise to bring you three big spread winning markets.
Please remember that unlike fixed odds betting, losses can exceed deposits when spread betting.
WARRINGTON WOLVES v WIGAN WARRIORS – MATCH MULTI-POINTS (SETTLED AT 952)
Friday night saw a triumph of the apprentice over the master as Daryl Powell’s Warrington side were comfortably despatched by Matt Peet, who was coaching in his 11th game at this level.
Iain Thornley scored a first half brace for the Cherry and Whites with his score added to by Bevan
French and the ever-dependable Liam Farrell as Wigan went into the break 24-10 up.
The away end was bouncing as Liam Marshall scored a quickfire double early in the second half and Bulgarian-born Ethan Havard got in on the act with the visitors racing into an unassailable lead. Danny Walker and Peter Mata’utia scored late consolation tries for Wire but it was ultimately too little too late.
Those of a Primose and Blue persuasion may well have been left feeling blue after that result, but there will have been a small consolation if they bought the Match Multi-Points spread (first half points multiplied by second).
This market settled at 952 thanks to those late Warrington tries as buyers converted a win equal to 564x their stake, with the pre-match spread formed at 361-398.
NEWCASTLE UNITED v LIVERPOOL – TOTAL GOAL MINUTES x CORNERS (SETTLED AT 114)
A combination of Eddie Howe and Saudi money has lifted the fog that threatened to engulf both the Tyne and St James’ Park earlier this season, but Newcastle were brought down to earth on Saturday as Liverpool secured another three points.
Jurgen Klopp’s dreams of a quadruple remain alive, but his side were made to work for their 1-0 win over the Geordies. Naby Keita’s goal in the 19th minute calmed Liverpool’s nerves, but despite further chances, they were unable to extend their lead.
The visitors also only managed six corners (slightly under their season average of 7.47), but Newcastle didn’t force a single one, ensuring a good day for sellers on the Total Goal Minutes x Corners. 6 x 19 = 114, and that was a long way short of the pre-match spread of 1475-1600 as sellers were dancing through Toon with a win equal to 1361x their stake.
FULHAM v LUTON TOWN – TOTAL GOAL MINUTES (SETTLED AT 418)
Fulham have handed out some resounding beatings this season and they signed their home campaign off in perfect style as they thrashed Luton 7-0 – securing the Championship trophy in the process.
Fulham had near enough complete control of the match and they took the lead on 29 minutes through midfielder Tom Cairney, with Kenny Tete doubling the lead ten minutes later. Liverpool-bound Fabio Carvalho, Bobby Reid, and Jean Michel Seri all added goals in the second half, but the main story of the rout was ‘that man’ Aleksandar Mitrovic.
If you believe that football started in 1992, the Serb now has the record for the most goals in an English league season thanks to his finish in the 92nd minute. Purists, however, will tell you that he needs 17 goals on the final day of the season to equal Dixie Dean’s record campaign for Everton in the 1927-28 season.
Whichever side of the debate you fall on, you won’t be too concerned if you bought Total Goal Minutes which settled at 418 against a pre-match spread of 144-154 meaning you would have won 264x your stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the weekend, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
