Best bets from the EURO Quarter-Finals, plus What Happens Next? and more

Ajla Tomljanovic is up 4-0 in the third set when her opponent Jelena Ostapenko seems to call an impromptu time-out - What Happens Next?

BIG WINNERS FROM THE QUARTER-FINALS

UKRAINE V ENGLAND 0-4
In a match that was labelled as a potential banana-skin for England beforehand, most of the nerves were settled when Harry Kane opened his own (and England’s) account within 4 minutes, with a Ukraine side seemingly setting up to hold out and play on the counter facing their game-plan falling apart before it had really begun.

The trick was repeated even faster in the second half, with Harry Maguire heading in the first of 3 second-half headers that the Three Lions scored, making the most of some thoroughly shocking defending by the Ukrainians to make a statement and book their semi-final place. We look at just how much punters could have won.

England Total Goal Minutes – Settled at 163

With 4 goals - the same as England had scored in all their previous matches before this one - led to a healthy makeup of 163 from an initial spread of 83-91. Punters who bought would have won 72 times their opening wager.

England Headed SMMs – Settled at 335

Continuing the tournament trend of headed goals, England managed to score 3 in just one match. That led to a huge makeup of 335 from an initial spread of 16-19, meaning a profit of 316 times their opening wager for punters who decided to buy!

Harry Kane SMMs – Settled at 104

With Harry Kane scoring a double - and almost a sensational treble - money was to be made on backing the England star man to continue his newly-found goalscoring touch after a quiet start to the tournament. With an opening spread of 47-55, those who bought would have been left with 49 times their opening stake.

Bookings – Settled at 0

In what on paper looked like a physically demanding assignment and likely a scrappy game, there were surprisingly few bookings; none in fact! With an opening spread of 38-42, those who sold would have been left with 38 times their opening wager.

BELGIUM V ITALY 1-2
In the marquee matchup of the quarter finals, two of the key contenders for the trophy faced off against each other, with the long-undefeated Italy facing the number-one-ranked Belgium looking to finally get the silverware that is thought to be needed for their ‘Golden Generation’ to really prove themselves as great.
Ultimately, the quality, experience and team spirit of the Italians shone through and led them to victory once again, albeit it had become tighter than expected after a 2-0 lead was halved by Romelu Lukaku’s penalty, and the Belgium striker had at least two gilt-edged chances to equalise for his side, but it ultimately wasn’t to be.

The Italians stood firm amid an onslaught from the Belgians in the second half and secured their place in the semis against familiar rivals – the Spanish, who of course crushed them 4-0 in the EURO 2012 final.

Corners Squared – Settled at 196

With a late barrage by the Belgians, the corner count rose considerably. This led to a sizeable makeup of 196 from an opening spread of 87-97, meaning punters who bought would have been left with 99 times their opening wager.

Marco Verratti Performance – Settled at 157

In a match that was always likely to be decided by the midfield battle, Italy's Marco Verratti produced a virtuoso performance in the middle of the park, with a Performance makeup of 157. From an opening spread of 89-94, those who bought would have been left with 66 times their opening wager.

SWITZERLAND V SPAIN 1-1 (SPAIN WON ON PENALTIES)
Another EURO 2020 knockout match involving Switzerland, and another marathon which led to a penalty shootout. After their heroics against the French, the Swiss very nearly repeated the trick against Spain. However, the achievement of winning back to back penalty shootouts had never been done before in the Euros, so history was against them.

Playing extra-time with 10 men, the Swiss held on to reach the lottery of the shootout - and would surely have been confident after defeating the World Champions just days earlier. Spain began the shootout poorly, but in a see-saw round of spot-kicks that were poor on quality all-round, Switzerland's nerve failed them, and Mikel Oyarzabal scored the deciding spot-kick to take Luis Enrique's team into the last 4.

Xherdan Shaqiri PGMs - Settled at 68

For Swiss fans, a lot of hope would surely have been on Shaqiri to grab a goal or produce a moment of magic, especially considering the fact the team have never lost in an international match where the Liverpool man had scored. Buying at his pre-match PGM spread of 4-7 would have left you with a tidy 61 times your opening wager!

Multi-Corners - Settled at 56

With an opening spread of 18-21, some substantial profit could have been made by punters deciding to buy - a tidy 35 times the opening wager, to be exact.

CZECH REPUBLIC V DENMARK 1-2

The Denmark fairytale is showing no signs of slowing up, as 'everybody's second team' in this tournament pushed through to the semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over fellow underdogs Czech Republic. Although Patrik Schick made the Danes sweat with his 5th goal of a fantastic tournament, they held on after goals from Thomas Delaney and Kasper Dolberg, setting up a semi-final meeting with England at Wembley.

Corners Squared - Settled at 256

In what proved to be a fairly set-piece-heavy match, buying at an opening spread of 92-102 would be very profitable - leaving punters with 154 times their opening wager.

Patrik Schick PGMs - Settled at 49

In what might almost have been seen as a 'safe bet' based on his performances so far in the tournament, Schick managed to get on the scoresheet once more, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for his team. However, buying at his opening spread of 13-16 would have left you with 33 times your opening wager.

Vladimir Coufal AM - Settled at 49

After a fantastic club season for the West Ham full-back, he produced another bit of quality from the right side to provide the inch-perfect cross for Schick to score. With a 49 makeup from an opening Assist Mins spread of just 3-6, buying would leave you with 43 times your opening wager.

1st Denmark Goal Mins - Settled at 5

For those who fancied a quick Danish start, selling at the opening spread of 54-57 would have left you with a tidy 49 times your opening stake - and a thank you to be owed to midfielder Thomas Delaney!
