England v Croatia – Preview and Key Markets

England v Croatia, 2pm, bbc 1

England open their tournament with the stiffest test in their group, the 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia – who of course defeated the Three Lions in the semi-finals to get to the showpiece. The Croats have always been a dangerous team and a thorn in England’s side, with the EURO 2008 qualifying and ‘Wally with the Brolly’ debacle still not fully forgotten.

However, things seem different this time around, with several of the Croatian stalwarts now either in international retirement or not quite at the level of their best days – namely Luka Modric, although the Real Madrid man had a decent season for Real Madrid and will look to likely cap off his international career with another successful tournament with his country.

The omens are not great, however, for England to grab an opening win. They have never won their opening fixture in a EUROs, with 5 draws and 4 defeats. Croatia, on the other hand, have never lost their opening match – winning 4 and drawing 1.

The young England team is full of confidence though and will be extremely motivated to make a statement by announcing themselves as one of the deserved favourites for the championship itself.

Spreadex are offering a Goal Supremacy spread of 0.75-0.95, a Total Goals Spread of 2.2-2.4, and a Total Goal Minutes spread of 113-123. On the fixed odds, England are at 4/6, while the draw is at 14/5 and Croatia at 9/2.

Don’t forget – Spreadex will also have a full range of NAMEIT match markets and player markets closer to the kick-off time, so there should be plenty of options to bet on and to get involved with the action as an exciting festival of European football will begin.

You can also get involved in our team markets, such as Team Goals Markets, Shirts & Bookings, Team Goal Time markets, Team Elimination markets and more. You can view the rest of the available markets here.
