HOW MUCH COULD I WIN FROM MY NUMBER OF FINISHERS SPREAD BET?

Say Spreadex is offering a Number of Finishers spread bet of 17-18. If you think there will be more than 18 Finishers, you would buy at 18. If you think there will be fewer than 17 finishers, you would sell at 17.

Once the dust has settled, 23 horses finish - the record set in 1984. If you had bought £5 at 18, you would win £25 ((23 - 18) x £5). If you had sold £5 at 17, however, you would lose £30 ((17 - 23) x £5)

On the other hand, say only 12 horses finish, as they did in 2018. If you had bought £5 at 18, you would lose £30 ((12 - 18) x £5). But if you had sold at 17, you would have won £25 ((17 - 12) x £5)​
