HOW TO PLACE AN ATHLETICS SPREAD BET

To place an athletics spread bet, look at the Spreadex prediction or spread on the market in question.

If you think the outcome will be higher than our price, then you would buy on the spread.

If you think the outcome will be lower than our price, then you would sell on the spread.

The more right you are the more you can win, but the opposite is the case if you get it wrong, as you may lose more than your initial stake.

Heading into the Olympics Men’s Breaststroke 100m final, you facing the chances of Swimmer A, so take a look at Spreadex’s 50-25-10 Index. That’s where 50 points are awarded for gold, 25 for silver and 10 for bronze.

Spreadex is offering an Swimmer A 50-25-10 Index spread of 20-23. You buy £10 at 23. Swimmer A ends up taking 1st place, leaving you with a profit of £270 ((50 – 23) x £10).

Even if they took the silver medal, you would still make a small profit of £20 ((25 – 23) x £10.

However, a 3rd place finish would cause a loss of £130 ((10 – 23) x £10).

ATHLETICS SPREAD BETTING ‘SELL’ EXAMPLE

It is the final of the Men’s 5000m at the World Athletics Championships and you think the favourite is overrated, so take a look at Spreadex’s 50-25-10 index.

Spreadex is offering an Athlete A 50-25-10 Index of 26-29, and you sell £10 at 26. Athlete A fails to make the podium, leaving you with a profit of £260 ((26 – 0) x £10.

A bronze medal, meanwhile, would still give you a profit of £160 ((26 – 10) x £10). Even a silver medal would make you a small £10 profit ((26 – 25) x £10).

However, if Athlete A won the gold medal, you would suffer a loss of £240 ((26 – 50) x £10).

Gold Medal Totals: A spread on the predicted number of gold medals won by a given nation at an Olympics - that's Summer and Winter Olympics - or any other athletics event.

50:25:10 Index: Athletes or teams are given a spread based upon being awarded 50 points for winning a gold in a certain event, 25 points for silver or 10 for bronze.

100m Final Winning Time: The predicted time of the winner of the men’s 100 metres final. For example, Spreadex may quote the winning time to be 9.79-9.81 seconds.

100m Final Gold and Silver Medal Time Difference: A prediction on the time between the men’s 100 metres gold medallist and the silver medallist. For example, Spreadex may quote the 100m Final Winning Gold and Silver Medal Time Difference at 0.04-0.06 seconds.
