Another weekend of dramatic sporting action saw the opening weekend of the Paris Olympics where Andy Murray put his retirement on hold with an epic comeback in the men's doubles tennis, Lewis Hamilton was victorious for the 105th time in F1 at the Belgian GP, Spain continued their trophy-winning run with victory in the Euro U-19 football final and much more, and as always in our daily betting blog we run through the big spread betting winners from the weekend!

Please remember Spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit. They may not be suitable for everyone so please ensure you fully understand the risks involved.

SPAIN U-19 v FRANCE U-19: SPA/FRA TGM SUPREMACY (SETTLED AT 110)

We start with the football betting action where Spain added yet another trophy to their international football cabinet and suggested they will have upcoming generations ready to step up to the senior team as the young Spaniards defeated France in the U-19 Euro final.

In what was a rematch from the group stages of the tournament less than a week earlier in which the two sides played out an exciting 2-2 draw and which saw France top the group, Spain showed their class when it mattered most as they secured a fairly comfortable 2-0 victory with the French playing with 10-men for the final 15 minutes.

For football spread bettors, those deciding to place a buy bet on our Spain/France Total Goal Minute Supremacy market proved to have made a profitable choice. With Spain netting in the 41st and 69th minutes and keeping a clean sheet to boot, buyers returned 103x their initial wager from a pre-match spread of -7 - 7.

F1 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX - PODIUM CAR NUMBERS (SETTLED AT 188)

Next we move to the F1 action from the legendary Spa Francorchamps in Belgium as the 2024 Formula 1 season produced yet another captivating race with plenty of drama. Although Mercedes' George Russell initally crossed the line first ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton for a 1-2 finish, the result did not stand.

Russell was found to have finished with an underweight car due to his one-stop strategy and the peculiarity of the Spa circuit where cars do not perform a full cool-down lap back to the pits after the race in which they can pick up rubber to add weight, and the Englishman was duly disqualified, handing Hamilton his 105th race win.

McLaren's Australian youngster Oscar Piastri initially claimed the final podium position following up his victory in Hungary last week, but later inherited the second spot with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc taking third place.

However, For F1 punters betting on the Podium Car Numbers market, Russell's disqualification did not matter due to the make-up being based on the order of finishers at the chequered flag and podium presentation, not taking into account post-race adjustments or disqualifications. This meant a make-up of 188 (RUS 63 + HAM 44 + PIA 81) from a pre-match spread of 77 - 80, which meant a return of 108x on buy bets!

MILOS RAONIC v DOMINIK KOEPFER - TOTAL POINTS (SETTLED AT 234)

And finally, we finish with the weekend's Olympic tennis action, and although much of the British attention was on Andy Murray's epic comeback win with Dan Evans in the doubles, there were several other big-winning bets in other matches. One of these was in the Canada - Germany clash between big-serving Milos Raonic and Dominik Koepfer.

While far from a household name, die-hard tennis fans may remember Koepfer taking on Roger Federer at Roland Garros back in 2021 and losing a very tight four-set match 6-7 7-6 6-7 5-7. The German was on the winning side here though, and once again showed his penchant for tie-breaks on Parisian clay as he came out on top 6-7 7-6 7-6 against Raonic.

In terms of spread betting, punters who decided to place a buy bet on the Total Points market made excellent profit thanks to the long match of serving brilliance. With the starting spread at 147 - 152, a final make-up of 234 meant a return of 82x their opening stake!
